A photo of Frank Stella’s sculpture “K.81 combo (K.37 and K.43) large size”, from 2009. Made from Protogen RPT with stainless steel tubing, a concentric twist of brightly colored metal strips is held aloft by silver scaffolding that sticks out at random angles. The central vortex feels frenetic, with ribbons of neon yellow, iridescent green, orange, brown, beige, red, and aquamarine that pop against the ruddy white walls and grey floor.
