Seven of them stand in the back, and five kneel in the foreground. They are all dressed in costumes, and one child, in the back, holds a large star. The caption reads: “THE FIRST CRISTMAS / CHILDREN FROM SHHH (SELF HELP FOR THE HARD OF HEARING) PUT ON A PLAY ABOUT THE NATIVITY AT THR GROUP’S ANNUAL CHRISTMAS PARTY AND MEETING MONDAY EVENING. THE PLAY, ‘THE FIRST CHRISTMAS,’ WAS BASED ON THE TOMIE DE PAOLA BOOK ‘THE CHRISTMAS PAGEANT.’ THE YOUNGSTERS’ COSTUMES WERE PROVIDED BY ST. BERNARD PARISH. PLAYERS INCLUDED MARGARET FINKE, NARRATOR; LAUREN BARKMEIER, MARY; LINDSEY BECKER, JOSEPH; DAVID DEMING, MESSENGER; ALYSSA BECKER, MATT AND ERIN BENISH, SHEPHERDS; JENNY STIFTER AND AMANDA KRANZUSCH, ANGELS; JEREMY KRANZUSCH, DAVID DEMING AND SARAH MARKMEIER, KINGS.” At the top of the clipping is the date, “THURSDAY, DEC. 15, 1988,” printed next to text that reads “C4 THE POST-CRESCENT, APPLETON-NEENAH-MENASHA, WIS.,” and at the bottom right corner of the photo is the photographer credit: “POST-CRESCENT PHOTO BY SCOTT WHITCOMB.”
