Larry Bell Marine Street Studio Photo by Marvin Silver copy
A black-and-white photo of artist Larry Bell in his studio in 1963. Bell, seated just right of center, is a light-skinned man with dark cropped hair; he wears light clothes covered in paint and smokes a cigar, his right hand lifted up at work on the sculpture in progress in front of him. The studio is a long narrow room with a single, large skylight. Rectangular sculptures made of plexiglass line the lefthand wall, while the sculptures at center and directly to the right of the camera have highly reflective mirror surfaces punctuated with opaque borders or stripes, respectively.
