Bathysphaera intacta

An illustration of “Bathysphaera intacta” by Else Bostelmann from 1934. Rendered with watercolor on paper, two large brown fish-like sea creatures swim around a circular grey submarine set against a matte black background. The creatures — one above and the other below the submarine — each have brown scales dotted with blue, long, antennae extending from their head and tale, and a row of sharp, menacing teeth. The lower fish has a blue and red eye that looks directly at the viewer. The submarine has 3 circular portholes; a person’s face peers out of the middle window, while a bright light shines out of the window on the far left.
