Tiananmen Square Installation

An installation photo of artist Dara Birnbaum’s five-channel video artwork “Tiananmen Square: Break-In Transmission,” from 1990. A figure clad in all black stands in the middle of a large, brightly-lit white room with light oak floors. The figure looks at a square screen inset into the wall directly in front of them. Around the room, other screens and speakers of various sizes hang down from the ceiling in a random configuration.
