Dr. Chalmers, Recto and verso

The front and back of a carbon print. On the left, an image of an older light-skinned man with wisps of white hair. The figure is seated in an ornately carved chair with his proper right hand resting on a book beside him. He wears a white cloth around his neck under various other layers of clothing, including a vest, overcoat with buttons, a strap across his chest, and a cloth draped over his right shoulder. He looks off to the right of the camera, with his lips slightly parted. On the right, the white backing of the photograph reveals a slight indentation of the mirror image.
