Jay DeFeo, Untitled (for B.C.), 1973

A 1973 black-and-white photo collage on mat board by artist Jay DeFeo. Cut out from the center of an off-white sheet of mat board, an amalgam of sheet music and photo paper create a sort of abstract bust or portrait. The central section, or “head”, is formed by a nearly perfect circle broken at its lower half by a triangular shape, which is connected to a long “neck” and black “shoulders”. The “face” is formed from numerous pieces of torn paper in shades of white and grey.
