Shigeko Kubota, Berlin Diary

Shigeko Kubota, Berlin Diary

A still from artist Shigeko Kubota’s 1979 video, “Berlin Diary.” The image is black-and-white, everything rendered in hazy tones of grey. It shows a young, light-skinned woman with dark hair pulled back away from her face. Her arms are raises to chest height, and she looks down and away from the camera to the left. In front of her, a large potted plant blooms with many leaves and white flowers. Behind her, one can see the length of a loft apartment with a window at the far end, where sunlight streams in and is reflected on the floor.
