Voting Booth

A photo of Noah Purifoy's sculpture "Voting Booth"

A photo of Noah Purifoy’s sculpture “Voting Booth”, date unknown. Set against a desert sunset, a covered bench-like structure made of white wood sits atop a flat expanse of tan sand. Three toilet seats– one red, one white, and one blue– stand open on the seat of the bench.”Voting Booth” originally presented a row of old shoes standing in three stalls behind drawn curtains. An iconic image of democracy in action is transformed whenever the wind lifts the curtain to reveal a row of toilets in place of voting machines.
