Ethiopian Chief, Recto with mount shadow

A 1902 photograph of an Ethiopian Chief

A black-and-white photographic portrait of a dark-skinned man with a bare chest and voluminous striped fabric draped around his shoulders and waist. The figure is frontal facing and looks downward, perhaps captured mid-blink. His left hand is raised and touches his bare torso; his right hand is lifted to chest height and grips what appears to be a sword or spear. A strip of fabric is wrapped around the crown of his head.
